Description
In the 16th century, the Moluccas (Maluku) were nicknamed the “Spice Islands”. This was due to the large number of spices that grew on this archipelago.
Today more than 2.1 million people live on the islands. The main habitants are Ternate, Tidore, and Halmahera.
Nutmeg and Cloves largely drove the spice trade. These two widely-used spices are originally native to this group of islands.
